Paul Gratton, CEO of Nottinghamshire’s SDL Group, has been shortlisted for Entrepreneur of the Year as part of the 2017 Lloyds Bank National Business Awards.
Since taking on the role of CEO in 2006, Paul has taken the national property specialist from strength-to-strength, employing six times as many people and increasing its turnover from £8m to over £60m, and a projected £93m in 2017/18.
Commenting on Paul’s shortlisting, SDL Group’s commercial director Rob Clifford, said: “Paul embodies entrepreneurial spirit and we’re all thrilled that he’s reached the finals.
“Paul started Direct Valuations from his back bedroom in 1989, forming the foundations of SDL Group. He went on to spend time at challenger banks First Direct and then Egg, helping to take them both from standing starts to businesses with millions of customers, before returning to the helm of SDL Group in 2006.
“Having taken SDL Group through a series of mergers, acquisitions and diversifications, Paul has helped cement our reputation as one of the UK’s fastest growing and dynamic organisations. Throughout, he has galvanised our people behind a set of principles and values which truly sets the business apart from its peers. Paul has always been about ‘blowing our customers’ socks off’ and it’s great for this imact to have attracted the attention of the 2017 Lloyds Bank National Business Awards.”
The finalists were chosen from hundreds of businesses that entered or were nominated across 18 award categories. They will now prepare for live presentations to an expert judging panel who will decide the overall winners.
Continuing the celebration of Best of British Ambition, this year’s prestigious award ceremony will take place on Tuesday 14th November 2017, at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, where the winners will be revealed.
Conor McGinn MP recently hosted a reception for the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards at the House of Commons. This enabled finalists to meet fellow entrants, the National Business Awards Advisory Board members, judges (who they will present to in September) and sponsors of each category.
Tom Broughton, Group Brand Director of the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards said: “Given the economic uncertainty over the past year, it is inspiring more than ever to see British businesses prosper. Through a thorough and comprehensive judging process, this year’s selected finalists demonstrate exceptional quality and diversity across a range of business sectors within the UK. We are now looking forward to the next step of the process and meeting some of the finalists face-to-face.”
